Employer Grants 

Youth unemployment is a problem in Birmingham. To help tackle this we are offering enhanced financial incentives to employers so that they can open up apprenticeship and non-apprenticeship opportunities to young people. The programme is called Young Talent for Business. 
 
We can provide financial incentives for businesses recruiting Birmingham’s young people to the following criteria (updated as of 6th October 2014). 

Apprenticeships 

(For Apprentice recruits , the Birmingham Jobs Fund is Paid via the employer's Training Provider) 
16 to 18 years old, at least 1 day not in employment, education or training (self-declared) or 
16 to 18 years old, attending one of the BJF accepted courses (see website for details) or 
18 to 24 years old, unemployed for at least 1 day (self declared) 

Non-Apprenticeships 

(Birmingham Jobs Fund is paid directly to the employer by Birmingham City Council) 
16 to 18 years old, at least 1 day not in employment, education or training (self-declared) or 
16 to 18 years old, attending one of the BJF accepted courses (see website for details) or 
18 to 24 years old, at least 1 day unemployed on one of the following Benefits: 
Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) 
Employment Support Allowance (ESA) 
Income Support (IS) 
And living in one of the following wards: Washwood Heath, Aston, Sparkbrook, Bordesley Green, Lozells & East Handsworth, Nechells or Soho. 
 
Or, 18 to 24 years old, at least 3 months unemployed on one of the above Benefits, if outside the above mentioned wards. 
 
*Apprentices and Non-Apprentices recruited must be residing in a Birmingham Local Authority Post Code to be eligible. 

Employers may have access to the following 

~ £1,500 to employers recruiting to an apprenticeship vacancy (fitting the above criteria) 
~ £2,275 to employers recruiting to a non-apprenticeship vacancy (fitting the above criteria) 
~ help for employers to find suitable candidates from a pool of bright and talented young people

This programme is delivered through a multi-agency partnership which comprises of Birmingham City Council, National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Marketing Birmingham. The team is based at Jobcentre Plus (Youth Hub), 100 Broad Street, Birmingham.
